Coaching and Consulting Experience
Phil is an executive coach with more than 25 years of experience in executive education. He leverages his experience designing and managing engagements with companies such as Chrysler, Johnson and Johnson, Merrill Lynch and PWC to coach executives to higher performance. He has coached leaders ranging from SVP, VP, MD and Group Head, within many industries across the globe including automotive, financial services, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, publishing, food and beverage, and technology. He is particularly interested in how individuals and teams learn – how they decide what to improve and how they can accelerate that improvement.
Phil also coaches in executive education programs at Harvard Business School. Early in his career, he worked at IBM as an industrial engineer and engineering manager, then as a research associate at Harvard Business School. His training and experience in those roles lend him particular expertise as a coach and adviser to leaders with diverse technical and functional expertise.
Business and Career Background
As a Principal at the Center for Executive Development for 15 years, then later at Global Leadership Services, Phil was responsible for leading client engagements. In that capacity, he participated in all aspects of the business, including relationship management, needs analysis and program design, program delivery and continuous improvement. He has designed numerous custom leadership development programs and led extensive group facilitation. The Center for Executive Development was a pioneer and recognized leader in the field of custom executive education, and he led many efforts to find new ways to help organizations expand their leadership development offerings.
Education and Certifications
Phil has a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University and a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University, a three-year elective program that included a year of study at Harvard Business School. He is certified in the Hogan Assessment Profiles and is proficient with several 360-feedback instruments.
As a research associate at the Harvard Business School, Phil authored numerous notes and case studies in the areas of Human Resource Management and Change Management.
