David Kinkel, Consultant

David Kinkel’s unique business and educational background, coupled with his passion to help clients find long-term solutions to their problems, makes him one of FranklinCovey’s most effective consultants.

David understands first-hand the challenges inherent in business, because he faced them as a business owner. Clients value his ability to relate to their issues through his own experience. In addition, David’s education has opened doors that have enabled him to work with people throughout the world. He has learned the importance of cultural diversity—the value of each person’s contribution to the whole.

Prior to joining FranklinCovey, David spent 23 years in the financial services industry. He founded Sella, Kinkel, Sella & Meyers, an independent financial planning and investment management firm focused on legal and medical practices. In 1993, David experienced the power of principle-centered leadership in his professional and personal life. He left his practice to join the Covey Leadership Center (now FranklinCovey) to share those principles with others.

David’s clients represent a variety of industries including technology, charitable giving, gas and oil, restaurant and hotel, professional sports, finance, and automotive. He has also worked with federal and state governmental agencies as well as all branches of the military.

David is particularly effective in cross-cultural environments and has successfully served clients in Africa, Asia, the Levant, and the Middle East. Those clients represent national organizations, multinationals, and government ministries.

David earned an M.S. in international relations from the Graduate School of International Service at American University in Washington, D.C. where he specialized in Chinese and Asian studies with a secondary emphasis in African studies. He also earned a B.S. degree in both history and political science with an emphasis in Soviet studies from Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky.

David lives near Washington D.C. with his wife Mary Ellen. The Kinkels love nature. They enjoy backpacking, mountain climbing, and gardening as well as model railroading and “chasing” steam engines.
